What Will I Be Doing In Ecuador?

In Ecuador, I will be participating in Environmental, Conservation and Community work in and around the cloud forest, Andes and Pacific coast of the Country,

The environmental work will include helping the 'reforestation' programmes in the rainforests by planting trees in an effort to counteract the detrimental effects of deforestation on the ecosystems there. This will also offset the carbon footprint I make on the trip.

The community help will include helping build schools, nurseries and other important buildings desperately needed by the local villages we visit and stay with. This will also give us the chance to interact and help teach the children in education there, giving them an insight into the wider world.

We will also participate in some important Marine Conservation work along the coast of the country, which could range from improving a community-run aquarium to protecting mangroves and enhancing small islands for the benefit of local wildlife.

While I am there, I also aim to complete an Expedition Portfolio, which could gain me 70 UCAS points to help me get to university. This is the equivalent of an A Grade at A/S level, the first part of an A Level qualification.

As well as this, during my week of marine conservation at the coast, I'll be learning to Scuba Dive and hopefully gain a PADI Open Water Diving qualification.
